G16. Elizabeth COLCHESTER was born in 1781 in Barking, Suffolk.8 She was married to Joseph IRON on 6 Sep 1804 in St Peter Ipswich. Elizabeth's sister Deborah witnessed the wedding along with Frederick Cox, Oliver Iron, and one other unreadable signature.

He was born in about 1775 in St Lawrence Ipswich and died in about 1851 in Bury St Edmunds.

The family was living in Bury St Edmunds at the time of the 1851 census.16 However their eldest son Nathaniel Colchester Iron went to America, as he published several books there in the 1860s. These books seem to have been popular historical novels, judging from their names and the number available second hand over the internet:

  • The Double Hero: a tale of sea and land during the War of 1812, published 1861
  • The Maid of Esopus: or the trials and triumphs of the revolution, published 1861
  • The Unknown: a tale of 1777, published 1863
  • Black Hollow: or the dragoon's bride. A tale of the Ramapo in 1779, published 1864
  • Hearts Forever: or the old Dominion battle-grounds, a tale of 1782, published 1866
  • The Two Guards, published (or republished) 1880
  • Agnes Falkland: a story of continental times, published 1883.17
