G37. George Thomas COLCHESTER was christened on 1 Nov 1820 in Barking, Suffolk.8 He died on 5 May 1845 and was buried seven days later in Barking, Suffolk.8 His tombstone is near the south door of Barking church and was inscribed:
"Sacred to the memory of GT Colchester, eldest son of Thomas and Elizabeth Colchester of Needham Market, who died May 5th 1845 aged 24 years.
Tis God that lifts our comforts high
& sinks them in the grave,
He gives and blessed for his name
He takes but what he gave."40
In 1828 George was registered as having started at Theobald's Grammar School in Needham Market.2 He probably died from tuberculosis, but we need to obtain the death certificate to prove this.
