Shermins Hall in Dedham was the school building of William Colchester’s B25 (1708-1773) English School. The brick work was carved with the initials of countless school boys.

Ivy House Dedham where William Colchester B25s (1708-1773) lived with his wife Susanna and eight boarders. The house was extensively altered in 1767 and a roundel put on the house with their initials.

Dedham Village. View from the church gate, Shermins Hall is on the left and Ivy
House where William Colchester lived is down the alleyway beside Shermins Hall.

Needham Market alms houses, 67 High Street, once the Ram Inn. The building may have been the Holy Trinity Guild Hall, hence its elaborate Tudor style chimneys. The Holy Trinity Guild was the guild associated with the woollen industry and had a guildhall known as the Ram, which would match the name of the inn. The Barking burial register describes Cyprian Colchester (1565-1633) as being the innkeeper of the Ram Inn.

Baylham Church. The manorial roll records 'James Colchester (1651-1673) died seized in Bayleham'. Robert Colchester (1626-1666) who probably died from the plague, made Thomas Love of Baylham, an executor of his will.

Baylham Mill. A William Colchester (1691-) of Baylham was recorded in the St Peter’s Ipswich marriage register as marrying Elizabeth Upson of Barham.
