A31. Robert COLCHESTER was born before 1535 and died in about 1564 in Barking, Suffolk. In 1550 he sued his mother for some 20 acres which he considered should have been his as it had been part of his mother's dowry on marriage to his father, but the land seems to have been taken by his stepfather William Boulton.32 Robert may have witnessed the will of Robert Smythe in 1561, who seems to have been a very religious person judging by the pious preamble to the will.33 He may have married an Alice as an Alice Colchester was mentioned in the will of 1564 Robert Goode of Creeting St Olave, husbandman "Pightle lying by Bosmere which Alice Colchester widow now hath in farm".31 Bosmere is beside Needham Market and on the River Gipping. There is now a modern road at about this point called The Pightle.
