THIRD GENERATION

A18. Agnes COLCHESTER. She inherited from her father the family house and lands. This went through marriage to the Sheppard family of Mickfield and is known as "Colchesters". She married Robert SHEPPARD of Reeds Hall Mickfield who died in 1548.4 She lived at Reeds Hall which estate agents recently described as a very grand moated hall with 5 bedrooms and a music room with minstrels gallery built in the 14th century. The hall and 3½ acres was for sale at the end of the 1990s for £450,000. In the 1544 rental 7/4½d rent was paid for the land, but this would not have included the hall.2 In 1530 at the manorial court she and her husband took possession of: a customary tenement and 3 acres called Brownes, 9 acres called Fremans Croft, 10 acres called Wo[o]d Close, land abutting Bonny Wood, and another 2 acres of land called Loker Close, now called Locking Close.8
