THIRD GENERATION
A16. Isabel COLCHESTER died in 1575.23 She was married to John INGHAM before 1536.2 She received in her father's will four fields called Wyndiche, Ashis (Ashfield), Olde Felde, and Balland; and a share in the household stuffs.5 Wyndiche is now called Winditches and is a rather unattractive bungalow and small holding on the east side of Barking Tye under the watertower. The land was probably given this name as it was once owned by the Wimbys family in 1222 - perhaps it was first called Wynbys's land and when the original owner had been forgotten, the name turned into something that sounded more sensible. By 1536, it was owned in the name of John Ingham and subsequently transferred to Robert Brewse in 1584. There is a description of the house there in 1695 when a Mary Lyons owned it. The house had a hall, buttery, one lower chamber, a backhouse, three upper rooms and a little shed, all under one roof.8
