SECOND GENERATION She was married to a SMYTHE1 before 1500. It is possible that he was called William, as a William Smyth the elder of Barking was executor to her brother John's will.5 They had at least one son, who was called John. There is a possibility of some confusion as Thomas Colchester (-1503) of Barking in his will states "Also th[e] sayd Cristian shall pay or do pay to Agnes Smyth hir syster XLs (£2) out of the same tent called Baldwynes."1 However Thomas referred to his other children as being sons or daughters. Thus is Agnes Smyth a sister in law to Christian Smythe, or did she have a full sister Agnes who also married a Smyth? She may have married to BROWN before 1507. The source for this speculation is the manorial court roll for Barking of 22 Henry VII (1507)2 when family land was transferred to Chrispiane Brown. |
