A2 i. William COLCHESTER.

He died before 1500.1

This William is deduced from the fact that his father asked that a trental was said for him in his will. Also as there was a second William who lived until 1538, this William was presumably older than William. There is also another hypothesis: that Thomas gave the money with which to arrange for the Grey Friars to sing a trental for himself.4 If this latter hypothesis is correct then that has an implication on Robert and Thomas below as they would have been alive in 1500. I have not found a reference to them being alive in the manorial rolls or other documents, but if they had left the village or had no copyhold land in Barking, then this would be explained.
