I am researching Dodsworth in England mainly Yorkshire. My Grandmother was Gertrude Dodsworth who married John Thomas Judson (yes, I know), her mothers surname was Cromack who came from Pudsey near Leeds. Gertrude was born at 1 Willmington Terrace, Leeds and died during World War Two. She had relatives in Malton, Yorkshire and I understand there is still a connection in Malton. Any and all info would be gratefully appreciated. John Dodsworth Judson

DODSWORTH Selby, YKS 1780-1900
The Dodsworth family have lived around the town of Selby, Yorkshire for at least two hundred years. The earliest confirmed connection is with William Dodsworth, a farmer, and his son John born in Selby abt 1811. John married Mary Ann Lamb in Selby Abbey in 1837. The family were living in Abbey Yard when their children William, Asenath, Susannah, Maria, Harriet, James, John, Enoch, Matthew and Harriet were born between 1838 and 1855.
We know that three of the sons married and raised their families in Selby. William married Mary Ann Parker, their children were Fredric, Arthur, Annie Maria and John William. Enoch and his wife had three daughters, Ann, Lucy and Emily. Matthew married Elizabeth; their children were Alice, Charlotte and Arthur. James became a ships carpenter and married Eliza Jane Graham from Newry in Ireland, they had three children Mary Ann, Harry and Lucy. Only Lucy appears to have survived to become an adult when she married William Hunter Yarrow
