In Jun 1891, Titus Binns BROWN married
Jane DODSWORTH (link) in Wharfedale, Yorkshire (source: freebmd)
By the 1901 census, they were living in Danby Wiske Entire, with three children:
Titus Binns BROWN was aged 33 and his occupation was "Schoolmaster" Jane BROWN was aged 35 and her occupation: "Schoolmistress"
Gertrude Dodsworth BROWN (b. 1893 approx in Danby Wiske) Percy Dodsworth BROWN (b. 1895 approx in Danby Wiske) George Dodsworth BROWN (b. 1899 approx in Danby
Wiske)
Gertrude Dodsworth BROWN (b. 1893 approx in Danby Wiske)
was married to Paddy QUINN (who was more than 15 years younger than her). She was a music teacher,
played the violin and piano, which she used to play for The Middlesbrough girls choir at Christmas.
Percy Dodsworth BROWN (b. 1895 approx in Danby Wiske)
was my great grandfather. He married Zella Vera Purser, of which not a
great deal is known - although the London
Gazette does have record of a "Miss Zella Vera Dodsworth BROWN
(230740)" who joined the Nursing Reserve forces on 1st May 1942. She was a
nurse when she met and married Percy; the other soldiers in the ward made a bet
she would not marry him, but she did. Zella
left the UK at some point, headed for Australia, where she took up a new life
for several years before returning to trace the Brown family through the
Salvation Army in the early 1980s.
Their son, John, also
has a mention in the London
Gazette, as he became a 2nd Lieutenant for the "CORPS OF ROYAL
ENGINEERS", on 23rd Apr 1944: "14412307 John Dodsworth BROWN
(315477)."
George Dodsworth BROWN (b. 1899 approx in Danby
Wiske)

FREEBMD Speculations
Brown is a common name, and "M A" doesn't give much to go on.
Nevetheless, there are only a few options thus far:
Option 1 - "M A" is infact "Mary Hannah" - I think that
Hannah and Anna are quite easily confused.

IGI Speculations
The following genealogy is entirely speculative as I have not seen any
certificates etc, and am just going by the IGI at www.familysearch.org
There are two John BROWNs listed in the IGI as christened in Guiseley
around 1827. Both have the same Parent's Names - George BROWN and Hannah.
The reason I give 1827 as John BROWN's birth year is his age at the time of
the 1881 census. This was taken 3rd April 1881, and so the first of these John's
would have just turned 54 - making him a very likely candidate!
- JOHN BROWN
Christening: 16 MAR 1828 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: GEORGE BROWN
Mother: HANNAH
(Batch: C009382;|
Printout: 6909735
Church of England.
Parish Church of Guiseley )
- JOHN AMBLER BROWN
Christening: 04 OCT 1829 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: GEORGE BROWN
Mother: HANNAH
(Batch: C009382,
Printout: 6909735 Church
of England. Parish Church of Guiseley )
Is it possible that there were two George and Hannah BROWN's? Of course! Is
is possible John was baptised twice? Possible! I suppose it is possible the
first John Brown died young, but I haven't come across any records yet.
A Hannah AMBLER married a George BROWN in Otley, 1827.
- HANNAH AMBLER
married
GEORGE BROWN
21 JUL 1827 Otley, Yorkshire, England
It is possible this is she:
- HANNAH AMBLER
Christening: 20 JAN 1805 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: JOHN AMBLER
Assuming that George would probably have married aged between 20 and 30,
there are a couple of likely candidates' christenings:
- GEORGE BROWN
Birth: 22 MAR 1804
Christening: 06 MAY 1804 Otley, Yorkshire, England
Father: CHARLES BROWN
(Batch: C009354)
- GEORGE BROWN
Christening: 27 APR 1806 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: JOHN BROWN
(Batch: 7231213)
Getting VERY Speculative now, there is a Charles BROWN born in Otley 1770
- CHARLES BROWN
Christening: 04 NOV 1770 Otley, Yorkshire, England
Father: WILLIAM BROWN
(Batch: 7216628)
And John BROWNs born in Guiseley 1774 and 1782,
... or Jon BROWNs of 1779 and 1781
- JOHN BROWN
Christening: 19 MAR 1774 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: JAMES BROWN
(Batch 7231213)
- JOHN BROWN
Birth: 14 JAN 1782
Christening: 02 FEB 1782 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: JOHN BROWN
Mother: MARY
(Batch 7231214)
- JON BROWN
Birth: 14 SEP 1781
Christening: 07 OCT 1781 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: JOHN BROWN
Mother: RACHAEL
(Batch 7231214)
- JON BROWN
Christening: 29 NOV 1779 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: JOHN BROWN
(Batch 7231214)
And there is a JOHN AMBLER Christened in Guiseley in 1773
- JOHN AMBLER
Christening: 11 APR 1773 Guiseley, Yorkshire, England
Father: JOHN AMBLER
(Batch: 7005719)
